I have a short rail trip from Chengdu East to Leshan coming up and the forecast looks wet every afternoon. I am used to high-speed rail in dry weather, but last year I learned that a soaked suitcase can make station transfers miserable, especially when taxi queues are long.
This time I am packing a small foldable umbrella in an outside pocket, a thin cover for the suitcase, and sandals in a dry bag so I can change if the streets flood near the hotel. I am also leaving extra time at the station because security lines move more slowly when everyone is carrying umbrellas and rain jackets.
For people who travel around Sichuan often, is a suitcase cover enough, or do you prefer a backpack and packing cubes when the rain is steady?
