Sending a laptop with a battery from Guangzhou to Beijing

I need to send a work laptop from Guangzhou to a colleague in Beijing. It has the built-in battery, no spare battery, and the original box is gone. The courier station downstairs said they can take it if I declare it as an electronic device, but they also warned that some routes are stricter and may reject it during sorting.

The laptop is not expensive, but it contains configured work software, so I care more about reliable delivery than the lowest fee. I can remove personal data and wrap it well, but I am unsure which courier is most predictable for a domestic shipment with a lithium battery inside.

Has anyone recently sent a laptop across provinces? I would appreciate practical advice on declaration wording, packing, and whether it is worth going to a larger branch instead of a small neighborhood counter.

Go to a full service branch and say it is a laptop with an internal lithium battery, not a loose battery. They may inspect it and choose ground transport. That is slower, but it is less likely to be stopped later. I would avoid vague wording because rejected parcels can sit in the network for days.

For work machines, we usually use SF and pay for declared value. The key packing detail is to stop the laptop from flexing: bubble wrap, cardboard on both sides, then a snug outer carton. Put the charger in a separate wrapped section so it does not press into the screen.
