Hotel registration when staying one night with a relative

My trip is mostly hotels, but I may spend one night with my cousin in Hangzhou between two hotel stays. I know hotels handle foreign guest registration automatically.

For a private apartment stay of one night, does my cousin need to take me to the local police station, or is there an online option that works in Hangzhou?
