Alipay says my passport check is incomplete when I pay on Taobao

I’m an American living in Hangzhou and can’t get a Taobao order through because Alipay keeps sending me back to identity verification. I created my Alipay account with my Chinese mobile number, entered my passport details, and uploaded the requested passport page. The upload went through, but the identity page still says verification is incomplete. When I return to Taobao’s payment screen, it sends me straight back to the same Alipay page without saying what needs fixing.

I checked that the account name matches my passport and haven’t changed the details since applying. I haven’t tried paying through a friend’s account because the order and delivery address are mine. How can I tell whether this is a document review, a profile mismatch, or a separate card issue? I’d appreciate recent 2026 experience from anyone who got Taobao working with a foreign passport.

I’d separate the identity check from card setup first. Since Alipay still shows verification as incomplete, look for a status message or document request inside Alipay before troubleshooting Taobao checkout.
