Meituan SMS code won’t arrive on my foreign number in Chengdu

I’m a foreigner living in Chengdu and I’m trying to register for Meituan with my non-Chinese number. I selected the country code, checked the number format, and tried again on mobile data, but the verification message still hasn’t arrived. I can receive other international SMS messages, so I’m unsure whether I’ve missed a setting or whether this number isn’t accepted. I’d also like to know whether Dianping uses the same login. Has anyone signed up with a foreign number recently, in 2026? What worked for you?

A foreign number may work, but acceptance and SMS delivery can vary. Check the country code and formatting once more; if the code still doesn’t come through, the app’s support channel may be able to clarify what it accepts.

Try updating the app, selecting your country code first, and entering the number without any domestic leading zero. Request a single code and give it a little time before trying again. If you get in, check whether your account also opens Dianping.

Repeated code requests can lead to a temporary block, so avoid tapping the button over and over. I’d also think twice before registering with someone else’s number, since you may need their help to recover the account later.
