Shadowrocket connects in Beijing, but some apps still won’t load

I’m a foreigner living in Beijing with Shadowrocket on my iPhone. I imported a configuration from my provider, and the app shows an active connection, but a few apps still fail to load while ordinary websites work. I checked that the configuration has not expired and switched between apartment Wi-Fi and mobile data, but the results are inconsistent. I can’t tell whether the cause is the server, a routing rule, the network, or the app itself. I’m not looking for a provider recommendation; I’d like to know which settings are worth checking and how to understand partial access without assuming every app should behave the same way. Has anyone used it in China recently, in 2026, and found a sensible way to diagnose this?

The active indicator means the app has established a connection, but it does not guarantee that every app is routed through it or that the selected server can reach each service.

Check the configuration’s expiry and connection details, then see whether the affected apps are included in its routing rules. Compare one affected app on Wi-Fi and mobile data, changing only one setting at a time so you can tell what made a difference.

Be careful with configuration files from unknown sources; they could expose traffic or account information. Changing several routing and DNS settings at once can also make it harder to restore a setup that was working.

With rule-based routing, one app may use the selected route while another goes direct. If you contact your provider, noting the network, affected app, time, and configuration state can make the problem easier to describe.
