I booked two domestic hotels through Trip.com for a family visit to Xi'an and Chengdu. My passport shows surname first, then two given names, but the booking confirmation displays my given names first. The hotel reservation desk says the passport number matters most, while Trip.com support says the name should match the document.
I can still cancel one booking, but the other is prepaid. I entered the passport number correctly and used the same phone number for both stays. What I cannot tell is whether the front desk scanner will reject the reservation if the name order differs.
For recent hotel check-ins with a foreign passport, did staff care about surname order, and is it worth asking Trip.com to amend the booking before arrival?
