Alipay passport name order keeps failing: how did you fix it?

I am trying to finish Alipay real-name verification with a foreign passport before a work trip to Hangzhou. My bank card is already linked, but Alipay keeps rejecting the identity step because my surname and given names appear in a different order from the passport photo.

I tried entering the name exactly as printed in the machine-readable line, then tried surname first, and then tried the order used by my employer's payroll record. The app only gives a generic rejection message, so I cannot tell whether the problem is the name order, the passport photo angle, or the bank card record.

For people who resolved this in 2026, which name format finally worked, and did you need help from Alipay support or from the bank?

The format that worked for me was all caps, surname first, then given names exactly as the passport shows them, with no commas. I also had to remove a middle-name hyphen because my Chinese bank record stored it as a space.

After changing that, I waited until the next morning before sending the identity check again. Repeating it many times in one hour only gave me the same rejection screen.

A bank mismatch is very common. Ask the bank branch to print or show the exact Latin-name spelling attached to your card. If the bank shortened a long given name, Alipay may prefer that bank spelling even when it looks less natural than the passport line.

Keep the passport photo flat, with all corners visible. Glare on the laminated page can also cause the app to read the name incorrectly.

I solved mine through Alipay support chat. I sent a clear passport scan, a selfie, and a screenshot of the bank card page with only the last four digits visible. They did not change my name manually, but they told me which spelling their system expected.

Once I used that spelling, real-name verification cleared in about two hours.
