Guangzhou high speed rail child ticket when the child has a foreign passport

I am planning a Guangzhou to Guilin high speed rail trip with my seven-year-old child. I can book my own ticket with a foreign passport in the railway app, but the child ticket screen asks for identity details and I am not sure whether the fare rule is based on age, height, or passport document type.

What I tried: I checked the app, Trip.com, and the station service hotline. The hotline said children with foreign passports can travel, but I should bring the original passport and arrive early for manual checks. The app still feels confusing because it shows several passenger categories.

Has anyone booked this recently in 2026? I want to avoid buying the wrong ticket and getting stuck at the gate.

We did Shanghai to Hangzhou with a foreign-passport child in May. The booking used the child's passport number and date of birth, and we carried the original passport. At the station, the manual gate staff checked both passports and let us through without collecting a paper ticket.

The fare category depended on the railway rule shown at booking time, but the document type did not block the child passenger record.

If the railway app is unclear, Trip.com support can sometimes confirm the passenger category before payment, but the station always relies on the passport at entry. Make sure the child's name order and passport number match exactly.

Arrive early at Guangzhou South. The manual passport lane can be slow when several international passengers are ahead of you, and child passengers sometimes require a staff check even when the adult ticket scans normally.
