Chengdu clinic visit with foreign insurance and a fapiao for reimbursement

I need to visit a private clinic in Chengdu for a follow-up blood panel. My overseas insurer says they can reimburse if the invoice shows my passport name, diagnosis category, itemized charges, and the clinic tax information. The clinic receptionist said they can issue a fapiao, but she was not sure whether the patient name can be entered in English.

What I tried: I called two clinics and one hospital international desk. Everyone said to bring my passport, but the answers about itemized invoice details were different. One place said the fapiao only shows a general medical service category.

For recent visits in 2026, what should I ask for at checkout so the claim is not rejected later?

Ask for three things before you pay: the electronic fapiao, the itemized fee list, and the outpatient record. My insurer cared more about the fee list and doctor note than the fapiao description, because the fapiao category was fairly broad.

At a Chengdu private clinic this spring, they entered my English passport name in the patient profile and printed the itemized list with the same name. The fapiao itself had less detail, but it matched the receipt number.

Bring your passport and ask registration to copy the name exactly from the bio page before the consultation starts. It is harder to change the name after payment because the invoice and medical record may already be locked.

If your insurer needs English diagnosis wording, ask whether the clinic can provide an English visit summary. Some international departments can, but normal cashier desks usually cannot translate the record.

I also recommend taking photos of the payment screen and saving the electronic invoice link immediately. Some portals expire or require a local phone number to reopen later.
