Returning a courier parcel from a Chengdu compound

I ordered a small appliance online and need to return it from a residential compound in Chengdu. The seller approved the return, but the pickup screen assumes the courier can enter the compound and call me at the door. In reality, couriers leave most deliveries at the gate shelves, and the guards do not always let pickup riders inside.

For returns, is it more reliable to carry the parcel to a courier counter or leave it with the gate guard after booking pickup? I can read the pickup code in the app, but I want to avoid the parcel being marked missed because the rider cannot reach the building.

For anything with a return deadline, I carry it to a courier counter. The pickup option works when the rider already knows the compound, but a missed call or a guard change can delay it by a day. At the counter they scan the code immediately, weigh the parcel, and the return status updates before you leave.

If you use pickup, message the rider with the gate name, building number, and a photo of the shelf area as soon as the order assigns someone. I also write the pickup code and my phone number on a small paper attached to the parcel. That helped when the rider collected from the gate without entering the compound.

Check whether the seller requires a specific courier. Some return screens let you choose any carrier, while others generate a label for one network only. If the system already assigned a carrier, taking it to the wrong counter can create a tracking number that the seller will not recognize automatically.
